We are into the back half of August now, the stretch where Kennywood starts stringing up its Fall Fantasy lights and you can feel the season getting ready to turn.

This weekend the good stuff sprawls out past the city line: a Renaissance village throwing open its gates in West Newton, base ball played by the old 1800s rules at Meadowcroft, and a grape harvest festival up in Ambridge.

Closer in there is free ballet under the stars at Hartwood, indie rock on the South Side, and a Sherlock spoof running all weekend just south of town.

Comfortable shoes, and maybe a light jacket for Sunday night.

🏰 The Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival throws open its village gates for the season out in West Newton, a 16th-century world of jousts, artisans, and turkey legs you gnaw while you wander. Opening day is Saturday, then it runs weekends into late September.

🎭 Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson: Apt. 2B reimagines Sherlock and Watson as two brilliant women at Little Lake Theatre out in Canonsburg, a fast, funny whodunit that keeps cracking wise while it outsmarts the room. It plays Friday through Sunday.

The Florida reggae-rock band brings its Good Karma tour to the Thunderbird in Lawrenceville, all sunshine grooves and dub bass, with RDGLDGRN opening the night. Twenty-one and up.

Azure hosts an outdoor sound bath in Schenley Park as a benefit, an hour of gongs and singing bowls with the trees doing the rest. A quiet, unhurried way to ease into the weekend.

The Tamburitzans bring their whirl of Eastern European folk music and dance to the South Park amphitheater, a free night in the Allegheny County concert series. Food trucks and a winery set up around six.

Meadowcroft plays host to base ball the way it looked in the 1860s, spelled as two words and played by the old rules, as the Somerset Frosty Sons of Thunder take on the Addison Mountain Stars. Straw hats encouraged, out in Avella.

Old Economy Village celebrates the Harmonists' winemaking past up in Ambridge with grape stomping, tastings, and hands-on demonstrations, part of the region's America 250 run. A living look at how a whole town once made its wine.

Kennywood kicks off 76 years of its Fall Fantasy Parades with a Mardi Gras theme this time, live music on the midways, beads, and lit floats rolling after dark. The unofficial first nod to fall.

The Pittsburgh indie band headlines Club Cafe on the South Side, tight hooks and loud guitars in a room small enough to feel every one of them. Twenty-one and up.

The fast-rising stand-up brings his 2026 tour to the Roxian in McKees Rocks, the sharp, personal crowd work that has him selling out theaters off the back of viral clips.

The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre closes out the Allegheny County summer series under the stars at Hartwood Acres, free and out on the lawn, with food trucks and a winery on site beforehand. Bring a blanket.
