WHAT'S ON PITTSBURGH · MIDWEEK
Happy Monday.
Reel Q is mid festival and the Botanic Garden has dinosaurs welded out of old steel, so this is not a thin week.
Tuesday leads with a Cannes prize winner at the Harris, scrap dinosaurs in Oakdale and a Pride paddle downtown.
Wednesday brings Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail to McKees Rocks, a wine and knitting night in Squirrel Hill, and Point Park's dancers.
Thursday eases off with a guided walk in Frick Park, short form improv on Liberty Avenue and free trivia in Bakery Square.
Let's get to it!

★ MIDWEEK PICK
🎬 Reel Q Presents: Flesh & Fuel
Harris Theater · Cultural District · 7:00 PM · Pay what you can
Reel Q, Pittsburgh's LGBTQ+ film festival, is in its 41st year and runs through Saturday. Tuesday's feature premiered in Critics' Week at Cannes in May and came home with the Queer Palm Revelation prize. Alexis Manenti plays a French long haul trucker who falls for a Polish driver he keeps meeting on the road, and neither of their jobs is interested in letting it happen. Ninety one minutes at the Harris, and you pay what you can.
Why go: A Cannes prize winner in a proper cinema, for whatever you decide it is worth.
Tuesday
TUESDAY, OCT 6
🦕 Scraposaurs
Pittsburgh Botanic Garden · Oakdale · $18 adults, $12 ages 3 to 17
Fifteen dinosaurs built out of scrap steel and found objects are loose in the Botanic Garden's 65 acres until the end of October. Gates open nine to five on Tuesday.
Why go: Eighteen dollars buys a long walk in the woods with something ridiculous around every third bend.
TUESDAY, OCT 6
🛶 Pride Kayaking
Venture Outdoors Kayak Dock · Downtown · 5:30 PM
Venture Outdoors runs this one off its Downtown dock on Fort Duquesne Boulevard, an evening paddle billed simply as queer joy on the river. Open to ages three and up.
Why go: Golden hour on the Allegheny, from the middle of it rather than a bridge over it.
Wednesday
WEDNESDAY, OCT 7
🎸 Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail
Roxian Theatre · McKees Rocks · 6:00 PM
WYEP presents two of the decade's best songwriters on one bill, with Brennan Wedl opening. All ages, and an early start at six.
Why go: Two headliners who could each sell out a room this size, and the Roxian is the right place to hear both.
WEDNESDAY, OCT 7
🧶 Sip and Stitch
Riverstone Bookstore · Squirrel Hill · 6:30 PM
Bring whatever you are knitting, crocheting, embroidering or hooking to the Forbes Avenue shop for a couple of hours. Riverstone supplies the wine and a comfortable corner.
Why go: RSVP ahead, then spend a Wednesday evening doing the hobby you keep not making time for.
WEDNESDAY, OCT 7
💃 Point Park Fall Dance Concert
PNC Theatre · Downtown · 7:30 PM
Point Park's conservatory dancers open a run that goes through Sunday, with work by Ron K. Brown, Jessica Lang, Larry Keigwin and Lloyd Culbreath.
Why go: Four serious choreographers in one evening, danced by a company that has not learned to coast yet.

😂 Speedrun
Arcade Comedy Theater · Downtown · 7:00 PM · $15
Pittsburgh's short form improv teams play games in the Whose Line style, built entirely out of what the audience shouts at them. Fifteen dollars on Liberty Avenue.
Why go: An hour of people being very quick on their feet, and you can still walk in on the night.
THURSDAY, OCT 8
🧠 General Trivia Night
City Kitchen · East Liberty · 8:00 PM · Free
